The New Yorker Magazine App Reviews

Ça ne marche pas du tout ! This does not work.

Why US & Canada only ?

Dear New Yorker, I love your magazine so much that I am paying a hell of money every year to receive it with weeks of delay (when I receive it ) here in France. Using the web site made me mad more than once with log ins and passwords and 403 not found ... When I bought my Ipad 1 month ago, the very first thing I did was download the NY app ... To discover that poor underdevelopped european subscribers cannot access to it... And the consumer service service was as gently as a parisian waiter in august. I ll read The economist on my Ipad then.

Good content bad app

The New Yorker is an excellent magazine, the articles are always very interesting. However the iPad app is very buggy and makes enjoying the magazine much more difficult than it should be. Often it stops in the middle of downloading a magazine and it is not clear how to restart it again. Sometimes "loses" a magazine from the library when "checking for updates". There is no easy way to view just a list of the magazines you have downloaded to the iPad, you have to browse down a long list of all the magazines that have ever existed to find older ones you have downloaded. The reader doesnt seem able to remember where you are in a magazine if you flip to one of the others for a while. There no way of making bookmarks to articles you liked. You can delete magazines you dont want to keep (and download them again for free later, which I like) but there is no way of keeping any individual articles you found interesting. All in all, its a huge disappointment and I am left wondering whether I should renew my subscription or not.

Great to have - download process disaster

Download issue seems to have been addressed - thanks, so 4 stars! the application though itself is sloppy - previous purchases are mixed in with magazines to buy - might be nice to create a separate periodicals library where purchases migrate to. Really happy to have the magazine on my iPad abroad - but download is excessively slow - and if the screen goes to sleep the whole download is erased and it needs to be restarted completely. All in all the page needs to be kept active for about 10 minutes.... Really needs to be addressed - otherwise the magazine and extras are fantastic!

New Yorker

The best web application. The most obvious but the most genius. Reading is a pleasure on the screen. Nasrine Seraji AA diploma RIBA

problems (x3, loud)

since a couple of days i am no longer able to open my downloaded magazines unless connected !! no problems with other magazines though, so definitely a problem with the NYer app. someone help!

Tired of waiting

After waiting more than 8 months for an iPhone 5 update (which the rest of the app ecosystem did in half the time, or less), Im sorry to say that Im disappointed at this sorry excuse for an update. The only thing that has been updated for the iPhone 5s larger screen is the title screen and store/library pages. The actual magazines HAVE NOT been updated. Now when you touch the screen you get the menu options and sliders on top and bottom of the screen to replace the black bars, which then fades out after 2 seconds. The most important thing, the content, is still in iPhone 4S resolution. For the love of god, its been 8 months for something as simple as an update to a screen resolution. Get with the times.

The best of the best

The best magazine in the world... But the app has not been working for the past week!! Help!

Good but slow

Well-designed app, just very slow yo download.

Fairly good

Some options hard to find, such as unloading a past issue

us are nice some time

hello, its quiet confortable to practice english from Paris, and something else than newsweek or times, which as unintersting as french broadcast. By the way, if u think it doesnt work with your i pad, a tip : reboot your ipad from time to time.

Only another attempt tp sell

Another site trying to sell you subscription

crashing app

looks beautiful, but unfortunately it is not working properly -- it crashes down and I just cant buy a single edition.

No problems at all!

I have being using this app on my IPad 2 and I am very satisfied.

Very good

It still miss an access to The New Yorker archives, and the audio extras on the magazine downloads really should have more functions like to pause, to play back and to play foward. But it is a pretty much good app overall.

Genial

Toll nur toll

I like it!

The only thing that disturbs me is the price model at the moment! 3.99€ for each issue, which didnt offer that much of interactivity like wired or popular science+ , is very much. I think that 2.99€ for the current issues would be a nice price and for the future I would like to see a subscription model like monthly half year, quarter and full or which you prefer....

No sample = no subscription

Its no doubt interesting, but without any sort of sample, im not spending my money on it! Come on give us just 1 issue to look at, even one from 2005

blurry text on new (3rd gen.) iPad

The iPad App has been great from the beginning (with some minor quirks). But Condé Nast needs to hurry up to deliver a version that is legible on the new iPad. The text is blurry and tiresome to read. As far as I know, the iPad version contains the pages as images (!) and they must therefore be rendered differently for the new device. Until Condé Nast finally delivers, do not install the App if you own a new iPad.

Please Update to hi-Res!

Love the magazine, but please update!
